Tropical moments to warm us through the Winter…..
Tropical moments to warm us through the Winter…..
not what you see-
naked, shivering, withered tree
still donning bits of finery.
My skin gone rough and graying
and the ground beneath decaying
where my roots are firmly planted
as my spine grows bent and slanted.
Close your eyes…
try to recall,
the kiss of Fall
so sweet he made us blush
and feel the golden rush
of girlish delight!
His nimble hands did thus caress,
so wild, untamed and wreckless
we danced, to light the sky!
‘What need for garments?’,
and thus, unfettered,
that tame the spirit,
fool the mind,
the passersby shook their heads
and grinned instead of
”Oh what a shame,”
was all they said.
Such loveliness once on the trees
lay now in shreds around their knees.
when thus you see
the gnarled skin-
what lies within
remains the same-
till Spring plants a kiss-
Then comes the blush,
yet now the hush
of naked truth
is cold and silent.
In Winter’s keep
doth does she sleep
with dancing dreams
of gold and green.

Today’s #SoCS post brought to you through The magic of Linda Hill’s blog.
Today’s word prompt was ma. Use it alone or as part of a word manipulation. Extra points for beginning your post with it.
Visit Linda’s place for more great posts and prompts. I hope you join the fun! Happy #Free48 everyone. If you are thirsty, stop in at the bar and strike up a conversation with Dan. He’ll tell you what’s good on the menu and share some humor. Maybe. If you buy him a beer. 😉
The In Between
When first comes shift of Summer’s light,
to softer hues and hazy views,
while midnight’s face grows clear and bright
its eyes aglow, that watching know
Thus when with glee and childlike, free
we squeal and squirm like earthy worms
exposed and bare as the naked tree-
Days of warm and golden treasure
turn to crimson fire-the heart’s desire
to swim in Nature’s pleasure
as she fades..
To pause the needle on the clay
as it spins a life away
and revel in the vast array
of Autumn’s finery.
Noses tingle from the strange mingle
of chill and smoky musk,
the fireflies lighting dusk
like tiny lanterns.
The heart pleads,
as even raking leaves
seems not so much a chore
as child’s play on such a day.
Lean on the handle, close your eyes
and imagine flying on a broom
across the moon!
To dissuade the cruel hand
that will paint the ever-land
a barren canvas white and brown.
Nature’s mask of death,
that on the air shall cast its breath
in frozen efigy.
Can we stay for just awhile
in the land of grins and giggles,
pumpkins, apples, pies and wriggles?
Let Winter wait in dreams, alone
for it chills me to
the very bone!

The path to Spring is strewn with Camellia blossoms….
While Japanese dancers sway to the music of the wind through the branches overhead…..
And her Grace sings the Holy Mass while nibbling Communion seeds.
The sun saunters lazily into the evening, winking slyly at the shadows…
where scarlet ladies flaunt their charms and weave magic spells.
Sweet magnolia begins her sultry dance into Summer,
and I hold my breath, lest the bitter Ice Queen become jealous
and rise from her slumber for an encore performance, snuffing out
the freshness of my heart’s delight at such a sight-
my garden’s path strewn with Springtime kisses.
This has been one looong Winter, folks, and me and skinny here are just waiting for Spring in the worst way….
But here is hope..
With blush upon her cheek she peeks her timid face around the corner of passing Winter and heralds the coming of the bright promise of Spring.
Oh yes, she is coming….
Happy weekend people.
“C’mon, Scully, you don’t get ice like this every day. Look, that guy is having a blast.”
”I don’t know Mulder, it looks kind of dangerous to me. What if you break your hand….or your big phone?”
“Nahhhh….Scully, look at Spidey. He’s got it in spades. I just think we gotta’ grab life by the snowballs and have some fun before the big takeover.”
(“wheeee…….look at me…….)
”You see, Scully, it’s a piece of ‘ice-d’ cake. Spidey said so. In other words, Scully, loosen those FBI pantyhose and slice some ice with your partner!”
”Okay, Mulder; although for the life of me I can’t see this easing the pain of an alien takeover. Oh, and Mulder….”
”What is it, Scully?”
“If that two legged arachnid doesn’t take his hand off my ass….he’s going face down on the ice this time.”
”That’s fair , Scully.”

Happy Saturday, folks. Check out the real #X-files every Wed at 7 CST. 😉
One of the best parts about moving to a new city is exploring the parks and wildlife areas nearby. We had a chance to do this recently at the Chatahoochie Nature Center. It was frigid cold but we warmed up quickly as the sun rose high in the sky and filtered down through the beautiful woodland trees and we hiked our morning away. The first place we chose to walk took us toward the Butterfly Garden which is pretty still this time of year; but I look forward to Spring and revisiting when it is teeming with new color and life.
Then hubby pointed out the first little miracle of enchantment.
We thought it was a random thing, like the Tiny Doors project in Atlanta.
That is a favorite of mine that I have blogged about before here on my old blog.
But no, it was only the beginning. Around each curve, behind most bushes, rocks and hidden in trees were more and more tiny houses-and with them, tiny doors! I’m sure you could hear me squealing down the hillside. Which explains why I didn’t get many bird shots for awhile. haha.
I hope you enjoy the walk as much as we did.
The park also has animal recovery habitats where we saw owls, hawks and bald eagles that had been injured and unable to function in the wild. And the beaver habitat was so cool. This fellow was working on his door while the missus rooted for ‘grub’.
So glad you are back Norm. Norm hosts this Thursday Doors event and always has some terrific doors of his own. Do visit there and follow the hoppy little blue frog to visit other great doors and also add a link to your own post. You know you see doors every day! Maybe it’s time for a closer look. And for a look at some reverently beautiful DC doors visit my friend Dan at No Facilities.
Meanwhile, have a gorgeous day whether you are treading water, snow or just plain trudging along. It is always good to remember one thing…..
Happiness is like a butterfly-lovely, often fleeting and always free. Just like my new tree friend, it is also steadfast if you carry it within your soul. Happy Thursday! This is the best part of reality dreaming for me-when we all share something beautiful.
