The weather forecast for San Isidro el General de Perez Zeledon….
Sunny. With a chance of hot. In the “Winter” of Costa Rica. Our cold months here are their most pleasant. Of course, in San Isidro most nights in the mountains are very cool to chilly. But the days are hot, so it was best to be prepared when visiting…the ticas know how to stay cool.
Find a nice spot (La Reyna), order some beers ( yes, that IS ice) and maybe some food….
Simole and delish. Then watch the world roll by from the balcony. Oh! And you musn’t forget the entertainment.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday. We spent at least one Thanksgiving in the land of Pura Vida. No, it is not easy to find a turkey there. But, frankly, it was the last thing on our minds…

When I saw the prompt for Linda Hill’s #SoCS it gave me a chuckle. I mean, who doesn’t love bodily functions? After I considered the amusing possibilities I decided to wait until the day unfolded. I knew we would have an adventure of some kind; and well, my body would be functioning for most of it, right?
My heart has been longing to see this new film and it did not disappoint. Can you guess which bodily functions were working during the movie? No, you scoundrels, not those. 🙄
Laughter and tears, that’s what. And so many moments nudged them out. This is a great feel good film. Disney does it every time. We can all benefit from Pooh’s wisdom. Especially a Piglet like me. 😊 See the movie and be rejuvenated. If you haven’t read A. A. Milne’s classic book you should.
Now, I know the title of this post wasn’t tears and laughter, so…..
After the movie we were hungry so we headed to mid-town for a Burger Quest. I called our son for a recommendation and he suggested Grindhouse Killer Burgers and even met us there to spend time with the ‘old folks’!
The restaurant is themed for B Horror Sci-Fi genre and pop culture icons. We sat at the bar. This menu was not difficult to navigate. I love a good old American style option. Double Decker of course. The other half of the menu shows the vegan and GF options. The beer? Eventide Blueberrry GrolschKettle cooked sweet potato chips with Bleu cheese dipYeah….I added the bacon. We shared an order of rings and things. 😉My treat! A boozy shake. I chose the El DuderinoIt was SOOOyummy…
On my new scale for measuring a burger’s worth-The Wahl-O-Meter (named for my favorite Wahlburger), this one gets a strong 9.5! Pure yumminess and terrific service.
We try to plan ahead so we popped over to the local bakery to pick up breakfast goodies. Of course, one might choose to have something for dessert…later on…maybe.
And you can’t see what’s underneath those pies. 🙈
This was over the top. Like a whoopie pie on steroids.
I hope your day has included some fun quests! Seize the #Free48!
Anyone who followed me at tropicalaffair.me knows I began running a series of posts that, coincidentally, came at random times whenever I happened to see and snap an odd photo of something unusual or just plain weird. In the Spirit of keeping things interesting here, I have decided to begin a new Random series. This weekend afforded me my first out of the ordinary image.
While this sadly is not an uncommon sight in many areas, there is always the certainty that…
One thing usually…
leads to another.
The questions remains-Which came first? Was it a shoeless drink-a-thon? Or did the beer eventually loosen the laces and the owners kick off their boogie shoes to dance away into the sunset?
You decide. Meanwhile, let’s all forget our cares for a moment and party on, even if it’s only in our minds. 😉
I love KC and The Sunshine Band! How I miss American Bandstand……
Man, what can I say? I am SO behind this week. Could it be due to some little thing called “work”? I am not really an uber talented gal but I take pride in my ability to juggle and multi task pretty well. This week has been mind boggling though. So glad my #Free48 showed up to rescue me!
This was how my week started…ugggg..
This will be a two-fer. I am not nearly so great at doors posts as my good friend Dan of No Facilities. He takes photos of awesome doors in all sorts of interesting places. I mean, I see doors and use doors; but they tend to be the same ones. They are either those leading in and out of work or the ones leading out into my beloved playground of nature-which has no doors! That’s why I love it so much.
Then along comes a message from my son and his beautiful fiancee telling me they are sending a little surprise package my way. Yipppeeee! I love surprises. And packages. I never expected their lovely little surprise to also be my doors salvation this week! Just look at these great doors!
And they are actually these amazing note cards. They remind me of the doors in Greece and Italy! Thank you Ande and Hayley for such a thoughtful surprise! For more great doors visit our Thursday Doors host Norm Frampton. You can see other wonderful doors there and add your own!
When I slipped downstairs this morning to catch up on posts and check the Friday prompt from Linda Hill for #SoCS, I went directly to Dan’s blog to see how things were at the bar. Linda’s prompt for today is picture. Oh goody!
My favorite thing! So I snapped this one. It pretty accurately shows my every Saturday ‘first rising’ routine.
Yeah…the doctor always wakes me up. 😉 So, here I sit, doing my writing while my art pad waits, my jewelry waits and…what was that other thing….oh, yes! OUTside. Maybe I will squeeze in some food and chores somewhere too.
And, speaking of food, this was going to be my doors contribution this week. By Friday I sorely needed some comfort in the form of Casian wings and beer. Or whiskey. Well, both! This is a favorite spot of ours. The owner is from NOLA and serves up Louisiana style fare with a twist or two. The bar is smoking but even that didn’t stop me. The bars all used to be smoking in Louisiana. Yeah, we disrobe at the front door and shower. 😏 My allergies are more forgiving that way.
The door to weekly amnesia..
Casian wings and the best muffaletta outside of LA we have found so far.
I love this fountain. It froze solid during the Winter snowstorm
A nice bit of Spring. I think I should plant tulips at the house.
Oh, and great news. Chip seems to be just fine, although I haven’t seen Dale…😕
The week ended up rather nicely so I have high hopes for at least one sunny day over this Free48! I hope yours is perfect!
Sunrise Friday amI have more great windows than doors from day to day…
So, this is a new jewelry project. I hope to do some more with it today!
Okay, well not just for baseball; but that is kind of the theme for my post today. It was an accidental theme due to our adventure last evening; nonetheless, it is the focal point of the evening.
So, without further ado, let me introduce you to my special guest on today’s post-the letter ‘B’!
B is indeed for baseball, for Battery, for Braves, beer, burgers, bunting, bikes, and bring it on !
My last week was mentally gruelling although I am fast forgetting why, due in part to our visit to one of Atlanta’s newest sports arenas- SunTrust Park’s Battery.
Now, it takes a lot to get me pumped over public venues, and I might well have my enthusiasm curbed if ever we find ourselves swimming among the sea of fans at one of the events here; but, as far as the location, the buildout and the resataurants, I am duly impressed. They are still growing and many unopened venues promise much more shopping, food and spirits coming soon.
Meanwhile, I will take you on a brief tour of the main strip down the center of the Battery. There are also restaurants, bars, shops and ticket venues on the main road as well as four major parking lots with several levels. We hit it just right with four free hours of weekday parking if you arrive before four pm. After that the free time decreases.
A walk down the main strip takes you by Wahlburger’s. I am slow to jump on any bandwagon that is overly hyped; but I have to tell you honestly that this was the best diner style burger I have had in years. I kid you not…the meat was seared and crispy on the outside but perfectly medium inside and they were double so a lot thinner than a big ole medium burger. Add a splash of wahl sauce, shredded lettuce, tomato, kosher style pickles, two perfectly crispy bacon strips and -dare I say it-good ‘ole American-or as they say on the menu- gov’ment-cheese. The fresh bun toasted to a golden brown held it all in place. Kind of. But I ate every last sniff of it. Oh, and there was a cup of Yukon Gold fries too. What? Did I take photos? Oh paleeeease….
Thank you, #Wahlburger’s all!Such a welcoming casual atmosphereHad my Chopsecutioner half drunk before I thought to snap a photo!Spiked Cherry Coke. Yummmm..This was the double Wahlburger, my new best friend. Helped me forget the week.
‘Waht’ (😉) could we do after such a meal but walk? So we made our way up the strip a second time. Other venues include an Italian pizzeria, a wine bar, NY bagel grille, Fried Chicken restauarant, Yard House-where we ended up-Terrapin Craft brewhouse with barbecue diner, El Felix Mexican, an Oyster Bar, Todd English Tavern, Sports and Social-a grown ups playground-and various others. For a complete list, check the link above. Oh, I have a few more photos for ya. Oh…that beer? It is by Terrapin Brewhouse and is purportedly brewed over baseball bat chips…I wasn’t sure how I felt about that but had to give it a try. It is a pretty lightweight beer but has a decent flavor, very mild and not hoppy at all, really. Just a little 5% kick though. I’m wishing we could serve a few of these at the bar, Dan.
Welcome to SunTrust ParkWho doesn’t love a Harley Davidson shop? This fountain was beautiful, changing every few secondsUnder the glow of BaseballMy friend Al would love this place!Ahhh…my good friend the Terrapin Tortuga!Obviously reporting the main events.Just had to get this shot with the neon baseball.Inside Sports and Social. What a view. Never saw an indoor monitor this large. 30 feet tall! The men’s room. No, I did not take this one, though I have done worse on a dare. Or accident. 😂The Chick-Fil-A mascot inside the stadiumAs it got darker, the night life awakenedImagine this area in the middle of playoffs!Yard House. Largest beer selection on tapMy choice for after dinner was a Jameson Mule. Giddayup.
And while my post didn’t make it in time for Norm’s Thursday Doors, this would have been my entry. Oh well, there’s always next week. Meanwhile, you guys get out there and enjoy some sunshine if ya’ got it!
File this under my “#I love Atlanta” diary entries. 😀💕
