Neverending Story/Photography/Music/Movies

This is from one of my favorite movies since my boys were young. I can’t even recall how many times I have seen The Neverending Story, a touching, imaginative film from the 80’s.

Beyond the main theme which guides the film-that we dream our world into existence and when we stop believing in our ability to dream and imagine, our world is in danger of disappearing-there are a dozen sub-themes such as self worth, loyalty, trust, vision, standing for something and fighting the forces of darkness.

In the clip above, our young hero Atreyu, who is tasked with saving the world from the rapidly encroaching Nothing, is approaching the portal where he can ask an important question. Many have tried to pass through the Sphinxes Gate,  but none possessed the confidence to pass through and were killed when the power of the Sphinxes was released after seeing into their souls.

It is one of the best moments of the film, although there are many.  Simple in terms of CG and special effects, the movie is still magical. It speaks of courage, friendship and loyalty, tenacity, hope and defiance in the face of almost certain defeat.  It teaches the message that the only thing which truly destroys us is giving up.

When we took a hike last weekend, I was so excited to be able to actually see Into the naked woods, with the trees undressed and showing their basic character-no frills.  We were close to the end of our four hour walk when we came upon these nearly twin giant Chestnut Oaks.  As I looked to the tops of them at the sky peeking between their reaching branches, I was immediately reminded of this scene in The Neverending Story.

Maybe you just had to be there….

After this gate, Atreyu must pass through the Magic Mirror Gate which was said to be the hardest of all to accomplish, for one must look into the mirror and see their true self without succumbing to madness and horror. It is in this moment that a stark realization happens for two of the movie’s prime characters.

Most people think they know themselves well,  but if we look very closely, sometimes what is revealed is not all that we thought or that we would wish of ourselves.  I like to look at my beautiful children and hopefully see a bright reflection of my best self within their eyes.

If you haven’t seen this movie at some point you should.  And if you have a child, do bring them along….

Our lives are all entwined as we walk the path of this Neverending Story call life.

For Ande, my own “Atreyu” and Barrett, “Bastion” .  Never keep your feet on the ground!!

A Good Day/#poetry #photography

Sunshine…

On my shoulders…

in my eyes….

Peering, peeking…

Quietly sneaking

                                                            across the sky…

Hours pass as, hardly speaking, we pursue our quest

and duly blessed, find the treasure we were

seeking.

Our souls are quenched as nature flows around, beneath and above…

“Where two or more of you are gathered in my name, there is a church.”

Cross over the bridge

                                         join the choir

dance with joy

and be baptized.

Emancipation, realization, appreciation, purification,

bring salvation.

And a mighty fine dinner at home…

She ignored me for her quest

Her fading, tattered wings speak of a life soon to pass. It’s curious the way that all living things seem to have an accelerated appreciation and hunger for the sweetness of life when the road to eternity looms ahead. We seek to absorb what we can, let go of regret and to leave an imprint that we were here.

I think she has left a beautiful one, don’t you?

I snapped this shot of a single thread web strung between hydrangea branches as we headed out the front door.

And this character scurried across the windshield when we pulled out of the driveway…

Obviously making a fast getaway. I thought I caught a menacing glare as I took this photo. I hear there was an untimely accident involving windshield wipers and water….

The first photo and the next were taken using my nifty new little “cheap trick” gadget. I had seen this set of lenses for the cell phone before but always walked on by. I mean, cheap means cheap; and I have wasted more bucks on ‘almost real’ items before. This time I said, “Go for it,”and did. At $10.99 I thought it was worth the risk.

The set includes a macro lens, a wide angle lens and a fish eye lens. So far I love what the macro lens brings to the table. I already get really nice macro shots with my iphone, but this lens gives greater detail to those tiny bits and pieces. The wide angle lens is cool for selfies as it pushes the image back, allowing for a more natural look and more subjects to be included. The fish eye lens is, well, a fish eye. And there’s even a nifty little lint-magnet bag to carry them in! 😀

What do you think?

The Crape Myrtle blossom was lying on the hood of my vehicle.

Cool beans, huh?

What?…Where were we going? Well, one day I will share my recent ideas regarding the death of customer service in America; but let’s just say we tried a new burger venue that sent me a free birthday burger coupon. 🙄 Big mistake.

We ended up going to my very favorite burger IN the universe-#Wahlburgers. Always consistent, always fresh, friendly service-at the bar-and my tummy is always grateful. That’s #Wahlburgers boys and girls, in #thebattery in #Atlanta. You guys rock!

I can think of no better way to start this #Free48 than with this meal and Linda Hill’s #SoCS promt, ORGAN.

I sure hope yours is filled with simple pleasures…

Oh, my goodness, wait,  now there is you!”

Freedom to breathe,

to accept the smallest of miracles

and to return them with gratitiude,

defines balance within existence.

May we see Light and be Light in every moment….

Speechless/#SoCS

It is with my apologies to Linda Hill and her #SoCS prompt that today’s post is not as fun filled as I normally try to create.. I try to always post things that lift others up or give them a smile.

Sadly, at this particular time, when I hear the word reservation my heart and head are heavy. Since hearing the news about Anthony Bourdain, the word only conjures up memories of watching his great food show Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations with my husband and dreaming of visitng all those wonderful places and having similar experiences as Anthony. He will be missed by so many. That also reminds me of the recent suicide of Kate Spade and not so recently of Robin Williams. All will be missed. So many people lose hope and in a single moment of deepest despair make that decision to abandon the life they were born to live. It breaks my heart for them and for those who love them.

The word reservation also conjures images of the atrocities suffered by the indigenous peoples of this and other countries for decades, a fact that many people still are unaware of or simply don’t care to look at. The issue of our government separating parents from infants has not been confined to illegals over the course of its history. There are still Native Americans seeking their natural families after being taken from them as small children and forced to live in foster homes. These are not myths or justifiable procedures. They are heartbreaking stories of growing up with a sense of lost identity and disconnection.

I have no reservation in speaking from my heart about these things. Life is beautiful in so many ways. I try to always glean the best from every situation and share the perfect moments that I find; however, we must also look at those things which are tragically present in this world and that we can affect with our prayers, with our voices and our votes, and above all else-with our love.

May Peace reign over the dis-ease that is insidiously infecting God’s perfect creation.

1 Peter 3:9-11

9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

10 For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.

11 They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.

I rarely quote scripture these days; but since many use it as a weapon, I feel it is necessary to bring to light the words of the Christ who is being used to commit many atrocoties against his message. I also do not equate ‘evil’ to the traditional interpretation. In my heart evil is fear. When man fears he wishes to destroy. My mother and father taught me as a child that “There is no fear in perfect love.” It makes perfect sense to me, yet it can be a mighty mountain to climb in this life.
