Behind the curtain,
beneath the lights
and hidden safely
out of sight
she waits.
Recites her lines
with sheer perfection,
the moves and words,
her grand reflection
of heart’s desire.
Her role it seems
fell short of dreams,
though happy she
tenaciously
supports the cast.
They who shine
and intertwine
creating magic,
tender, tragic…
’till bright stars fall!
The, blossoming,
she takes the stage,
her book of life
thus turns a page-
she is newborn!
Glowing, growing
rave review
her dreams it seems
all coming true.
She climbs the heights
to light the nights…
as they who climb
are marking time,
taking their marks
like hungry sharks
they circle
and wait,
thus the fate
of
The Understudy.
