First Lights

‘Twas the week before Christmas,

and time, it would seem,

to seek out a few of my favorite things.

The local town square is always so bright

with sparkling magical holiday lights!

But first…

A feast!

I know it doesn’t look much like roast beast!

The Whos were having their office affair

Decked out in their jammies, with nary a care.

Time to pay up and get out in the air!

The lights were all twinkling

We went straight to the Square!

Reflections I see

in the spheres on the tree-

such curious faces

staring back at me!

Wait! Is this a Prince I have found?

Sitting alone

on the cold, hard ground-

but where is your crown?

I kissed his cold cheek

all damp with the night.

He was not shy,

and did not give fight.

Still,  he sat there on

his rock and remained

a frog-content,

and without shame.

The lights! The lights I see..

They light up the night and

my heart with glee.

Swans a swimming,

frogs a leaping-

all within my heart

for keeping.

At this time of year

restraint disappears

and like a child

my soul is wild

with hopes and dreams

as love light gleams

across the world.

Oh, why can’t every day be like Christmas?

The night was dark

and nothing scary

though our ‘free’ dessert

was something hairy!

Shame on you kitchen friends. And it had such promise….

This post brought to you by Linda Hill and her #SoCS post prompt.

For adventure and some historic doors hop over to Dan’s place. That guy does some traveling!

Serendipity…

The holidays aren’t complete for me without a few unconventional “traditions”-a cafe, a certain treat, a movie-or ten! And some aren’t really classically holiday films. But this one marks the season for my romantic heart and has become a Christmas tradition for me since I first saw it back in 2001. No one does manic, adorable romantic antics as well as John Cusak, and who can resist the charm of Kate Beckinsale? What an adventure in serendipitous happy ending satisfaction. If you’ve never seen it, you can catch it on Hulu. Lose yourself in possibility and dreams…

I can never get enough happy endings…or Serendipity.

From Flower to Flour/#SoCS

I love this prompt! God knows I love flowers. And bees on flowers. And butterflies on flowers. And now I am using mostly ancient grain flours for cooking, but I still love a squishy homemade roll or burger bun. So, thanks Linda Hill for making it ‘real’ for me this time around.

Last weekend was full of fun for us, being up in Nebraska for a couple of special events. My oldest son got married and I made the cake, a simple but oh-so-yummy Strawberry Wipped Cream number that is almost always perfect on a 90 degree end of Summer day. The strawberries are soaked in Grand Marnier for hours (of course) before being layered in the cake alternately with freshly whipped cream. I think it was a success.

Love this expression.

The bride’s dress? Oh, she was beautiful in it throughout the afternoon. As soon as the ceremony and photos were done in the sweltering heat of early evening, we all shed our finery and donned cooler attire.

The flowers? If you come to my blog often enough, you know I love flowers. Here is a recent encounter with a beautiful fellow who enjoys them even more than me!
