Dreaming Reality

The power to create lies within you

The Escape/#TDWC

She stops and leans against the wall,

afraid to move, she longs to call

his name

Panting, breathless, from the climb,

she views the place now left behind

in shame

Knuckles white as they grip the vines,

entangled as the love that binds

her heart

Soundless stretch the moments, long,

she wonders could she have been wrong

to part

The life she left was commonly bland

but safe and predictable in this wicked land

of heartache

When a shadow fell across the stone,

she shivered, now chilled to the bone

with dread

The unexpected grip on her arm

filled her heart with stark alarm-

”I’m dead!”

The hand that stopped her frightened cry

was not the one she longed to fly

far from

It was gentle as the eyes that plead,

warm as the lips pressed to her head,

he’d come!

“My horse is there,” his words were hot

against her ear… there came a shot!

They ran!

She buried her face in the folds of his cloak

breathing wool and sweat, and neither spoke

a word

The distant shouts and yapping of hounds

faded behind them until the only sounds

she heard-

the clopping of hooves and the beat of her heart

for the life she hoped would be a fresh start

with promise.

”Did you do it,” he asked as they fled the past

“He’s dead,” she murmured. “I’m free at last…”

Unless they find us

  1. I can almost hear someone like Marty Robbins singing this. Great rhythm! (I might have just aged myself lol) Let’s insert Garth or a Brad Paisley??
