“You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me”

”This is not even one of your favorite songs!” That’s what I keep saying to my Mom who passed away when I was 21 years old. Over the years I have felt certain she was speaking to me at different times through music and other little signs. But, no. I don’t recall her ever particularly liking this tune.

Still, it has been running through my head incessantly for three days. No, I haven’t heard it on the radio or been watching any infommercials on 50’s and 60’s collections. I am also running through my mental list of other dearly departed and still-nothing. Of course how well do we often know anyone? Now it is time for a purge because I really don’t care for this tune playing all the time on constant repeat. So, here you go. Now you can have it stuck in your head too. Welcome to ‘top 40 purgatory’!

Okay, well, now that I’ve listened to the intro. I just realized it must be Mom. I was born in 1959. I love you too, Mom! Thanks. I think. 😏

You’ve really got a hold on me. 💕

  1. ❤ ❤ ❤ I can see why your mom still has a hold on you. What a beautiful woman! I'm sorry you lost her at such a young age, but apparently her memory is strong enough for you to keep singing that song.

  2. She was so glamorous!

I love the poses they did in those days. I’ve got memories of my mom’s portraits in glamorous poses like this one. I do have one of her I love.

You’re just under me in age. 🙂

I love this song so it’s okay if its on repeat in my head for awhile.

    • I must say I am developing a new appreciation for it. And knowing she was reaching out has helped me through what could have been a very stressful week. All things have a purpose for those with ears to hear and eyes to see, hearts open. It was a glamorous shot. She was more beautiful than she ever believed. Thanks Deborah. 😊

  3. Cheryl, your mom was a stunning beauty. I watched the video. Thanks a bunch! Now I’m humming that damn song. Lol. I cracked up watching because they all look like they’re only 3′ tall!!

Have no clue why this song is running through your head. Perhaps your mom? Something buried in your subconscious? And the fact that you don’t remember your mom being particularly fond of this song doesn’t mean she wouldn’t use it to get your attention.

Hope you find the answer. No doubt it will be a joyful one,

  4. Oh, so you’re another 59er! I loved the ‘top 40 purgatory’. 😀
I get what you mean. My story: My dad was a truck driver, eventually a long distance driver. I was about 25 when he died. Years later, on a rainy morning, I was driving to work. My route had a huge number of traffic lights, which were typically red. I caught the first light green… and the second… and the next 10 lights, all green all the way to the office! By the time I was halfway there I thought, “Daddy?” As I turned onto the final street I asked out loud. Then another song came on the radio, Eddie Rabbit “Driving My Life Away” — his favorite.
    Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs.

  5. She was a beautiful woman. I’m not going to play the video – it’s already stuck in my head. I think of my mom at the strangest times. I guess it’s our way of making sense of the past. Have a sweet day.
