Clinging/Poetry

lizard shoot and roses 021.NEF

Clinging
Fingers gripping,
sanity slipping,
mind numb,
voice dumb,
walls closing in
reality thin.

I long to run,
to curse and scream,
coming apart
at every seam.

Invisible,
a backdrop,
a working fool-
where, the honor,
for keeping the rule?

Give me wings,
a voice that sings,
not wailing in pain
as the weeping rain
rolls like the tide
from the ocean inside
my soul.

Against my skin
like fire they sting.
I could drift on the waves
but still I cling.

Breathe.
Pray.
Wait.
Stay.

The sun will shine tomorrow
and obliterate the sorrow,
hidden safely in its place as
I paint the smile on
my new day face.
